Yurt Travel Guidelines
Overnight use of a yurt requires a trip permit. These permits are obtained through the Evanston Parks and Recreation District office. In order to receive the trip permits you will need to make the reservation (307) 789 1770, provide payment, and have all members of your party sign the liability release form. You may print the form from this site, to save time.
Winter yurt travel poses risks that can lead to serious injury or death. To minimize risk, the following precautions are suggested:
If you are not sure of the location of your destination yurt, be sure that you have a travel map, and know how to read it. Each yurt is identified with one wooden post and sign.
Yurts are not readily visible from the forest trails (to limit damage from casual travelers). Finding the yurt is part of the back country experience. You are responsible for knowing where you are going.
Be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and cold temperatures. Have winter survival gear with you. Be prepared to winter camp if you cannot locate your yurt.
If you are traveling at night, you should have a head lamp and extra batteries.
You are responsible for your own safety. Be prepared, be safe and enjoy this unique recreational experience.
If you are not sure of the location of your yurt or your map reading skills, BRORA members may be available to guide your party to the yurt, and familiarize you with the facilities (for a fee). Contact Joe Wright at (307) 789 7588.
